A made-to-measure book
Thomas means “twin” — so give him a story where he’s the one and only
Behind the short, sturdy sound of Thomas sits an Aramaic word for “twin”, an apostle who insisted on seeing for himself, and a thumb-sized hero from English folklore. A personalised picture book lets Thomas — or Tom, or Tommy — step into a story of his own.

Here's how a book for Thomas could look
Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.

Why a book with Thomas on the cover
Thomas is a name children learn to spot early. It starts with a confident capital T, and the silent h right after it is one of the first spelling puzzles a young reader notices: it looks like “thumb” but sounds like “tom”. Seeing that exact spelling printed across the front of a book — not a sticker, not a gap filled in by hand — is a small thrill for a boy who is just starting to recognise his own name in print.
Inside, the story is written in English from the start, so Thomas isn’t dropped into a pre-written sentence. The narrator can call him Thomas when the moment is serious and Tom when it’s playful; a grandparent character can say “Tommy” the way grandparents tend to. Because the illustrations are created from one photo you upload, the boy crouching beside the deer or holding the football actually looks like your Thomas.
There’s a nice irony here, too. Thomas literally means “twin”, yet in this book there’s no one to share the spotlight with — unless you want there to be. You can add up to five characters, so a brother, a best friend or the family dog can come along on the adventure while Thomas stays the hero.
Where the name Thomas comes from
Thomas comes from the Aramaic word t’oma, meaning “twin”. In the Gospels the apostle Thomas is also called Didymus — the Greek word for twin — so his name is effectively given twice in two languages. That apostle became known as “Doubting Thomas” because he refused to believe the news of the resurrection until he could see it with his own eyes. Parents of a curious, show-me-first little boy often find that nickname rather fitting.
The spelling with “Th” comes from Greek and Latin, where the sound was written with the letter theta. English kept the letters but dropped the sound, which is why Thomas is pronounced with a plain T.
In England the name arrived in strength with the Normans after 1066 and spread quickly in the twelfth century, helped by the fame of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury murdered in his own cathedral in 1170. Pilgrimages to his shrine — the journey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales is built around — kept the name on everyone’s lips for centuries. By the late Middle Ages Thomas sat alongside John and William as one of the most common boys’ names in the country, and “Tom” had become so ordinary that it turned into a byword for any man at all, as in “every Tom, Dick and Harry”.
The name has never really gone out of fashion since. Thomas was a fixture of the top boys’ names in England and Wales through the 1990s and remains a familiar, steady choice today — classic without feeling old-fashioned. Its equivalents are found right across Europe: Tomos in Welsh, Tommaso in Italian, Tomasz in Polish, Thomas unchanged in French and German, so a Thomas will meet namesakes almost anywhere he travels.
Few names have as long a shelf in children’s stories. Tom Thumb, the boy no bigger than his father’s thumb, is one of the oldest English fairy tales to appear in print, and “Tom, Tom, the piper’s son” has been chanted in nurseries for generations. There is even a cat: Beatrix Potter’s Tom Kitten, forever losing his buttons. A Thomas who gets a book of his own is joining a long line of small Toms who had adventures far bigger than themselves — the difference is that this time the hero has his face.
Tom, Tommy and other ways to say Thomas
- Thomas — The full name — for the cover, the dedication and the moments in the story when the narrator wants to sound proud or a little solemn.
- Tom — The everyday short form and one of the oldest English nicknames; it has been used on its own for centuries, from Tom Thumb to Tom Sawyer.
- Tommy — The warm, younger-sounding version that grandparents, siblings and nursery staff tend to reach for.
- Tam — The traditional Scottish form, still heard north of the border and familiar from Robert Burns’s poem “Tam o’ Shanter”.
- Tomos and Twm — The Welsh form and its pet name — a natural choice for a family with Welsh roots.
- Thom — A short form that keeps the h of the full spelling; some families like it precisely because it looks a little different on paper.

My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️
We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.
The book was a gift… I’ll find out how happy it makes them… but it’s very beautiful
I have the books ready as a gift, so I’m already looking forward to handing them over
An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)
Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.
The book is beautiful and my granddaughter is happy with it.
We are satisfied, my little boy really liked the book too. :)
The book and the audiobook are both great. Minor imperfections were willingly and immediately fixed to my satisfaction. I will definitely buy another one, and I have also recommended it to others..
The book is very beautiful, I would have welcomed more pages (for that price), the story is interesting, because my granddaughter loves animals and her cousins, but I have to wait until Christmas for her reaction
I got the book for a birthday and the princess wouldn’t put it down.
The book is very nice. The pictures look very nice, they're not blurry. The book really made us happy.

Yes. You enter the name and how you want him addressed, so the cover can say Thomas while the characters inside call him Tom or Tommy — just as they would at home.
