Elijah rode a chariot of fire — Eli gets his own adventure

In the old story, Elijah leaves the earth in a chariot of fire. Your Eli can settle for a golden canyon, a homemade cape or a winning goal — with his own face in the pictures and Elijah right there on the cover.

Here's how a book for Elijah could look

Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.

The covers above are samples — the illustrations were created by artificial intelligence and the children in them aren't real. Your book is made from the photo you upload.

Why Elijah belongs on a title page

Some names have to grow into a book title. Elijah arrives ready. Three syllables with the stress landing squarely in the middle — e-LY-jah — give it the rhythm of a sentence read aloud, and the open “-jah” ending lets a line land softly, the way the last words of a bedtime chapter should. Set in large letters at the top of a cover, Elijah fills the space as if it had been commissioned for it.

There is also a lovely double life in this name. Elijah is the formal register — the version that goes on birth certificates, school registers and, in this case, a title page. Eli is the boy himself: the one who leaves his shoes in the hallway and negotiates for one more chapter. Most boys with this name live almost entirely as Eli, which is exactly why the full Elijah printed on a cover feels like a small promotion. It hands him his big name back and says it was his all along — not just the thing adults reach for when he is in trouble.

And because this story is written for him rather than found on a shelf, the name is not a sticker on a generic hero. Elijah is the one holding the compass on the canyon path, the one under the cape at dusk, the one whose glider finally flies — on every page, in every scene, in his own likeness.

Where the name Elijah comes from

Elijah is Hebrew — Eliyyahu, usually translated as “my God is the Lord”. Its first famous bearer, the prophet of the Books of Kings, is one of the most cinematic figures in the whole Bible: fed by ravens beside the brook Cherith, calling down fire on Mount Carmel, and finally carried off in a whirlwind by that chariot of fire. Few names come with better source material for a boy who likes his stories big.

For centuries the name simmered quietly, a steady biblical classic rather than a fashion. Then, from the 1990s onward, American parents rediscovered it, and it has never looked back: Elijah has sat inside the top ten boys’ names in the United States for well over a decade and in recent years has ranked among the top five. That climb says something about how the name reads today — biblical but not stuffy, classic but not dusty, equally at home on a prophet and on a preschooler with a football under his arm.

It travels well, too. English kept Elijah close to the Hebrew; Greek and German smoothed the same name into Elias, Russian into Ilya, French into Élie. A boy named Elijah tends to discover cousins of his name wherever in the world he goes. He is in good company at home as well: Elijah McCoy, the engineer whose inventions were so trusted that buyers insisted on “the real McCoy”, and Elijah Wood, who carried the One Ring across Middle-earth, both prove the name works just as well below a title as above one.

What to call an Elijah

  • Eli — The everyday classic, and the form most boys with this name actually answer to — at the kitchen table, on the playground, and whispered at lights-out. If your Elijah has been an Eli since day one, you can just as well make the book about Eli: you type the hero’s name yourself.
  • Lij or Lije — The insider’s short form, rhyming with the middle syllable of Elijah. It has an old Americana flavour and is rare today — famously, it is what Elijah Wood’s friends call him. A good candidate for a nickname that belongs to just one grandad.
  • EJ — When the middle name cooperates, initials take over: an Elijah John or Elijah Jack turns into EJ around the house and on the back of a football shirt. Snappy for shouting across a pitch.
  • Elijah, in full — Saved for the moments that matter: first days of school, birthday cakes — and book covers. All three syllables at once tell a boy that this occasion, and this story, is a big one.

My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️

We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.

An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)

The book is very beautiful, I would have welcomed more pages (for that price), the story is interesting, because my granddaughter loves animals and her cousins, but I have to wait until Christmas for her reaction

FAQ

Questions parents ask.

Most asked questions

Yes. You type the hero’s name yourself when you create the book, so the story uses exactly the form your family uses. Some parents choose the full Elijah because it looks grand in a title; plenty of others go with Eli from the first page. Whichever you enter is the name the whole story is written around.
